Farnborough are in Emirates FA Cup action for the first time this weekend, as they travel to North London to take on Wingate & Finchley.
Last time out. Boro fell out of the Hampshire Senior Cup after a 4-3 defeat at home to Folland Sports. The majority of the first team was rested ahead of the trip to The Maurice Rebak Stadium.
The Yellows enjoyed a magical FA Cup run last season. A 2-0 away win at League Two Sutton United rewarded with a Second Round Proper spot. Boro drew Hollywood-owned Wrexham and despite playing well early on and keeping the score level until the last 15 minutes, Farborough were blown away in the final 12 minutes, losing 4-1 and bringing a wonderful journey to an end.
Sunday’s opponents Wingate & Finchley have only reached this stage of the competition a handful of times in their history. The Blues have only reached the Second Round Qualifying 13 times in their 31-year history. They have also only gone further than this stage just four times, most recently in the 2021/22 season, losing 0-3 at home to Corinthian-Casuals in a Replay.
Ahmet Rifat’s men advanced to this round thanks to a 3-2 away win at Whitstable Town. Anointed Chukwu and Ruben Carvalho gave The Blues a 2-0 lead at half-time. Whitstable Town were able to pull one back before Ruben Carvalho got his second and made it 3-1 to The Blues. Whitstable got another one back, but it wasn’t enough and the victory for Wingate & Finchley set up this tie against Farnborough.
The North London outfit currently sit 11th in the Isthmian Premier Division, having played six, won three, drawn one and lost twice.
The two sides met twice back in November 2015. The game finished 4-3 to The Blues, while the reverse fixture in Hampshire finished 2-1 to Boro.
Let’s hope for another wonderful FA Cup run this season. Come on Farnborough!
